EXTRA: JIM SHUMATE INTERVIEW (EXCERPT) Jim Shumate died on October 10, 2013, at the age of 91, in his hometown of Hickory, North Carolina. One of the earliest members of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys, Shumate first introduced bandleader Monroe to banjo player Earl Scruggs, thus initiating one of the essential collaborations in American music. LOST CHILD host Burgin Mathews conducted this interview in Shumate's home in 2002. 18 minutes.
